INFO 5000
Fall 2020
The INFO 5000 Term Paper, which was done during the Fall semester of 2020, fulfills the first ALA competency in one major way, providing practice with analyzing and addressing complex problems. The INFO 5000 Term Paper was over the impact of copyright law and the possibility of Open Access as a solution to the issues it causes. One of the issues that library science professionals must deal with is engaging with the copyright of the items in their collections. Copyright makes library science professionals have to walk a very narrow bridge between providing access to materials and following copyright law. I explored both how copyright law restricted library science professionals and how Open Access can be a potential solution to the restrictions of copyright. This provided experience with 1F, National and international social, social, public, information, economic, and cultural policies and trends of significance to the library and information profession, 1G, The legal framework within which libraries and information agencies operate, and 1H, the importance of effective advocacy for libraries, librarians, other library workers, and library services.
