ALA Competency 5: Reference & User Services

    INFO 5600

    Group Project

    Fall 2020

The INFO 5600 group project, which was done over the Fall semester of 2020 fulfills the fifth ALA competency in three ways, gathering information, evaluating the knowledge of the audience, and evaluating the benefits and drawbacks of services. The first way if fulfills the fifth competency is through requiring writing about information gathering, which fulfills 5D, information literacy/information competence techniques and methods, numerical literacy, and statistical literacy. The second way that the INFO 5600 group project fulfills the fifth ALA competency is through gathering information about the information literacy of the audience. Since the goal of the group project was to create a plan for providing an information service to a specific group the assignment required information be collected in order to gauge the audiences information literacy both before and after the presentation which fulfills both 5F, the principles of assessment and response to diversity in user needs, user communities, and user preferences, as well as 5E, the principles and methods of advocacy used to reach specific audiences to promote and explain concepts and services

    INFO 5223

    Research Presentation

    July 2021

The INFO 5223 Presentation, which was done over the Summer semester of 2021, fulfills the fifth ALA competency in three ways, gathering information, evaluating the knowledge of the audience, and evaluating the benefits and drawbacks of services. For the presentation we were to research and present on a specific metadata schema to the rest of the class, except for the first four presenters of which I was on. Instead of a schema I was to present on a specific type of metadata and explain what it was, how it was used and what the benefits and drawbacks of showing that type of metadata in the record was. Part of the INFO 5223 Presentation was explaining the benefits and drawbacks of the assigned topic. This fulfills 5G, The principles and methods used to assess the impact of current and emerging situations or circumstances on the design and implementation of appropriate services or resource development.
